It is
in essence a limited edition kit of the FM2n bundled
with a Nikon 50mm f1.4 AIS lens. Only 2,000 units were produced to
comerate the YEAR 2000 by Nikon . This is reflected in the serial
number as xxxx/2000 .The kit comes in a beautifully printed
presentation box made of hard cardboard .The exterior of the box
is printed in bright reflective gold colour, with a dragon motif
and 2 lines of text -- "Nikon FM2 kit" and
"Millennium Edition". The instruction manual for the
camera is the standard manual for the FM2n, no mention of the
millennium edition within.
FM2n
Gold
? The
Nikon FM2 and the lens are not actually GOLD Plated but
some would think IF the camera was designed as gold plated as with
the Nikon FA gold in 1983, it may be too catchy to be used as
normal SLR), maybe
Nikon thought it the same way too. It
is fairly obvious from
the first look that the camera and lens differs
from the chrome finishes of the standard FM2n production models.
The camera has a champagne finish , little lighter than the Nikon
FM2T (Titanium) . The lens mounting ring that one usually finds in
the lens, separating the focusing ring and the aperture ring is
also similarly finished as the camera body; making it a perfect
match. Very well thought of. The vinyl ( or whatever it is made
of) covering to the body appears to
be the same as the FM2n. Same colour, same texture and same
grains. The covering is very homogeneous, and the workmanship in
bonding the covering to the body work is first rated.
What is most striking, is the
presence of a dragon emblem right in the front panel, below the
shutter release and the FM2 inscription The emblem is elliptical
in shape, approximately 10mm by 22mm across, set in pitch black
with the dragon in golden colour in very fine details. Otherwise
there are very little differences between the millennium model and
the standard production models in other aspects. The handling and
feel of the camera is similar to the FM2n but then again to get a
piece like this you will have to wait another millennium .
